Feverdream

I feel like I’m in a fever dream. In recent days, the enemy seems to have such a foothold on the family and God’s design for it. He is able to slither in and get in bed with husbands and wives, whispering false promises of lasting pleasure elsewhere. He is able to pull fathers away from their children and mothers away from the home. He tempts by appealing to fleshly passions of money and attention, all while shackling slaves to serve him. He deviously appears to promise happiness but has actually got his hands around the necks of his followers, suffocating the new life that God has freely offered them through Jesus’ dying breaths.

Hear me now. Jesus has already died for you. STOP crucifying him again by aligning yourself His enemy. And if he’s God’s enemy, he is yours. Satan laughs at you, Satan makes fun of you, Satan thinks you are stupid for being so gullible. Satan appears to be gracious, but is actually a slimy, selfish, sinister, self-serving villain.

He will tell you that you should be happy, but then tell you that you aren’t worthy of it.

He will tell you that sex outside of marriage feels good, but will mock you in the guilt you feel.

He will tell you that money and status will solve everything, but will strip you of your ability to have real community because of your pride.

He will tell you that you can be whatever gender and sexual orientation you want to be, but abandon you after you have mutilated your body or developed permanent diseases.

He will tell you that God makes mistakes, but he’s trying to cover up his own history of errors.

He will tell you that “you should do you,” but he knows in the end, you will be miserable and have regrets.

He will tell you that the Bible has too many rules, but he actually is just feeding you different rules for living that leave you exposed and unsafe.

He will tell you that life is hard and substances will soothe, but he is actually poisoning you and creating a dependency on his venom.

He will tell you that Christians are hypocrites, but he actually is a hypocrite himself– He hates God, but wants to be him.

He will tell you that he’s “for you”, but he’s actually using you as a pawn to get back at God.

He will attack your identity. He will continue to move the goalposts and you will never be enough. He will slowly remove all goodness from your life until you are shrouded in darkness, alone. He will make you promise after promise that he ends up changing the conditions on. He will break you down over and over and over again, until you don’t recognize yourself anymore. You see, that’s the difference between him and God. Satan wants to break you down and God wants to build you up. Satan looks at you like a subservient, foolish coward. God looks at you and sees His child who is lost and looking for his way home.

Church, wake up from this! We have to stop letting Satan in our homes. His tactics may be subtle, but they aren’t undetectable. The darkness of his lies about you can’t hold under the bright light of what God’s Word says about you. The light of God’s Word is clear:

-You are seen (Proverbs 15:3; Hebrews 4:13; Psalm 33:18)

-You are known (Psalm 139)

-You are loved (1 John 4:7-12; Romans 8:35-39)

All your needs are satisfied in Him. The One who created you. He created you to be seen, known, and loved- all of which He fulfills. Run to Him. He can handle your mess and instead of shaming you for being messy, He will help you clean it up. He will lead toward eternal life with Him and away from a future of torment and pain. Why? Because He is good and Satan is not. Satan is no friend of yours. Stop letting him in.
